Knowledge Lost in Tangles

The knowledge of how a process really works, and what may hidden be in a tangle, is often scattered around an organisation,  uncontrolled and unknown and in various locations.  It may be lost in legacy IT systems which have taken manual processes and automated them

The tacit knowledge in peoples heads is too often overlooked.  How many organisations effectively manage and develop knowledge rather than lose it and then recreate another version of it?  The people who know how to navigate through a tangle may keep hold of that knowledge for their own advantage.
